There is so much freedom in surrendering your life to Jesus, and while we tend to overcomplicate pretty much everything, accepting Him is simple.
Romans 10:9 says,
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
That sounds pretty simple, right?
Jesus also said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
If you want to know Jesus, then just talk to him and tell him thank you for dying on the cross for you and for loving you while you were still a sinner. Ask him to come into your heart, and receive his free gift of salvation. Tell him that he is the Lord of your life starting right now, and ask him to forgive you, to help you turn away from sin and to fill you with the Holy Spirit.
You could pray something like this:
Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins and for loving me even though I’m a sinner. I want you to be the Lord of my life, and I know that there is nothing I can do to earn it. Come into my heart, and be the Lord of my life. I receive your gift of salvation right now. I give myself to you, and I ask you to forgive me, cleanse me, and to help me turn away from sin and grow closer to you. Fill me with your Spirit, and help me to live the life you want me to live.
In Jesus name,
The Bible shows us that we can’t do anything to earn salvation. All we have to do is receive the gift that God gave us.
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2: 4-10
We will never receive a more generous or extravagant gift in this lifetime than the gift of salvation! The incredible life change that comes from being in relationship with Jesus will make our lives abundant while we’re on earth, but it will also allow us to spend eternity in Heaven. How awesome is that?
